Message The engine was also designed over 25 years ago, so we've gotten better at things since then. What Nissan needed to deliver was an engine that could handle anything that its users threw at it, so there were large margins of safety. Someone running a high compression turbo motor is going to be religious about all maintenance, paying more for better gas, and paying attention to how the engine is running to be sure that nothing is starting to go wrong.

The old limits on high compression boosted motors are also being passed because of recent improvements in all things airflow that we have been seeing. It'd be nice to see a high compression, stock (or close to stock)turbo with the massives/piping on 91 and E85. I care most about spool, so I'd be fine running low boost on 91 but able to crank it on E85. This is definitely a developing field though.
